University of Montana Western offers unique horsemanship program

The University of Montana-Western http://www.umwestern.edu/boasts a classroom that is unlike any other.

Although it may seem routine, in addition to the students, professors, lectures, demonstrations, experimentation, practice and, of course, a lot of learning, there’s one thing that sets it apart from others – it’s a class conducted from a saddle.

The school’s program in horsemanship is one that sets it apart from other schools across the country. There, students can earn a two or four year degree with either a business management, biology or psychology emphasis.

"It’s challenging. Horses can be very frustrating, and that’s why I like them because they bring out patience in you, they bring out a different side of yourself, they push you. So the class is challenging but, it’s definitely enjoyable. I’m not going to say it’s not enjoyable to ride around for three hours," student Leslie Furniss said.
