As state lawmakers gear up for the 2009 legislative session in January, the University of Montana is honing its proposal for a new College of Technology http://www.cte.umt.edu/ campus.

It is UM's http://www.umt.edu/ hope, and a priority of the Montana Board of Regents http://www.mus.edu/ , that lawmakers will approve an unprecedented $30 million plan to construct Phase One of a state-of-the-art facility on a chunk of ground that is currently home to the Missoula campus golf course.

The concept is clear, the need is great, and the price tag for this ambitious project has been carefully thought out, said UM President George Dennison.

“We didn't just draw a number out of the air,” Dennison said. “We have had a number of charettes and focus groups to discuss what our needs are, what do we need to flourish, how can we best serve our students and what should this (new) campus look like.”

Regents OK $131M MSU budget

MSU President Geoff Gamble, outlining the budget before the board, said he canceled plans for an $8 million microbiology lab renovation rather than take on more debt. He said the decision was an example of MSU's conservative approach to money matters.
