Superintendent Linda McCulloch Presents Cash Awards at Montana Educators' Forum

September 24, 2008View for printing

State Superintendent Linda McCulloch will present significant cash awards to six Montana teachers at 11:30 AM on Friday, September 26 at the Red Lion Colonial Inn.

The $3000 salary stipend is annually awarded to teachers who recently attained National Board Certification.

"It takes hundreds of hours to plan and prepare for the National Board Certification assessment," said State Superintendent McCulloch. "Each year, it is an honor to recognize these Montana teachers for demonstrating a commitment to quality instruction."

The following 2007 National Board Certified Teachers will receive $3000 salary stipends at the Montana Educators' Forum:

* (Billings) Debbie Dolezal - Preschool Special Education, Beartooth School

* (Billings) Shirley Waldron - Preschool Special Education, Career Center

* (Missoula) Rob Jensen - Earth Science/Biology, Hellgate High School

* (Missoula) Christy Meurer - Multi-age 1 & 2, Lewis & Clark Elementary

* (Bozeman) Anne Keith - 8th Grade Math, Chief Joseph Middle School

* (Havre) Kathleen Sather - 1st Grade, Highland Park School North

By law, Montana provides a one-time state stipend to all teachers who attain National Board Certification. The proposal was one of the first legislative initiatives State Superintendent McCulloch worked to pass in office nearly 8 years ago. It passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate.

Also on Friday, September 26 at the Red Lion Colonial Inn in Helena:

8 AM - State Superintendent McCulloch commences the Montana Educators' Forum with a speech on "Educating Montana for a Profoundly Different Future."
