Senators Baucus and Tester announce grant for Hamilton-based education program - Media Arts in the Public Schools (MAPS)
| September 24, 2008 |
A $76,647 federal grant will help get a new media arts institute up and running in Hamilton about this time next year.
The grant will aid in the transformation of a successful Corvallis High School media arts program into a new business that will be open to high school students and adults.
“The grant is our seed money,” said Peter Rosten http://www.peterrosten.com/ , a former entertainment industry writer, producer and executive who founded the Media Arts in the Public Schools http://www.mediarts.org/ , or MAPS, program at Corvallis High School.
The MAPS program was created in 2004 by a nonprofit organization named to honor Rosten’s mother - the Florence Prever Rosten Foundation.
When it closed last June, MAPS had become financially self-sufficient, grossing $100,000 for television commercials that ran in 38 different states.
