Association of Counties (MACo) comes to Hamilton, Montana
| September 22, 2008 |
Anxiety over federal funding for rural communities tops the agenda this week as the Montana Association of Counties http://maco.cog.mt.us/ gathers in Hamilton for its annual conference.
County commissioners whose economies depend on farming, logging, grazing and other rural ways of life will be searching for long-term answers to their fiscal crunch, but for a few days at least, Bitterroot Valley businesses will see their cash registers ringing.
The MACo meeting is expected to generate an estimated $500,000 in spending on lodging, meals, shopping, gas and other goods and services. About 250 hotel and motel rooms have been reserved for the meeting, which runs Sunday to Thursday.
