September 17, 2008View for printing

The Big Sky Institute for the Advancement of Nonprofits recently posted Montana: The Current Philanthropic Environment on its website (http://www.bigskyinstitute.org).

This report was produced by the Futures Committee of the Governor’s Task Force on Endowments and Philanthropy, in which BSI staff participated. The Committee was charged with making recommendations for the Task Force to consider in determining its future programmatic and organizational direction. The Committee recognized that philanthropy and the nonprofit sector in Montana has significantly evolved from when the GTF was first formed in l995, and it wanted to begin its deliberations by documenting this new environment.

The report addresses: The Montana Reality; Population, Economy and Civic Engagement; The Nonprofit Sector; Charitable Contributions, Foundations and Endowments ; Organizations dedicated to the growth of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector; Public Policy; The National Scene; International Factors. The report also offers some Montana Philanthropy Highlights.
