Campaign helps spread kindness in Montana schools – Rachel’s Challenge

Students at East Middle School are ready to accept the challenge left behind by one of the students killed in the 1999 Columbine school shooting.

Monday morning, students listened to a guest speaker from the school-motivation organization Rachel’s Challenge http://www.rachelschallenge.com/ explain who exactly Rachel Joy Scott was and why her journals about kindness causing a chain reaction are still relevant and necessary today.

Students were told that in the weeks and months after Rachel was killed in the worst school shooting in U.S. history, her family was going through things in her room when her father, Darrell — the founder of Rachel’s Challenge — discovered her journal filled with ideas about how random acts of kindness can create a huge chain reaction.

"We would know very little of Rachel Scott if she hadn’t left journals," said Cody Burch, one of the speakers from Rachel’s Challenge.
