Montana not feeling full force of nation’s economic troubles

Montana is not only a long way from Wall Street geographically, but it’s also distanced from the problems plaguing the investment banking sector, a state offical said Monday.

Annie Goodwin, commissioner of the Montana Department of Administration’s Banking and Financial Institutions, said Montana’s 64 state chartered banks do not have much exposure to subprime mortgages.

"We are repeatedly seeing signs that Montana’s current economic climate is far better than most of the nation’s," Goodwin said.
