Job training program to debut in Salmon, Idaho – Rural Idaho Outreach Partners

A new program aimed at bolstering the job skills of young workers in rural Idaho will get its first test in the central Idaho mountain town of Salmon.

The program, called Rural Idaho Outreach Partners http://www.riop.org , evolved from the partnership of private industry, the Idaho Department of Labor, and educators.

The program is aimed at getting high school students and young adults thinking about careers and providing more educational opportunities to help them get the skills they need to land good-paying jobs. The group’s first career fair is scheduled Saturday and is expected to attract students from Salmon, Challis, Arco and other small communities in the region.

Doug Sayer, president of Blackfoot-based Premier Technology Inc. http://www.premiertechnology.cc/ , has spearhead the initiative. A native of rural Idaho, Sayer says the state’s smaller communities need more help in developing a steady, strong economy.

Rural Idaho Outreach Partners also includes the Idaho National Laboratory http://www.inl.gov and Eastern Idaho Technical College.
