Montana council advances handful of climate measures

A state committee given 54 recommendations for addressing climate change is making a handful of them into bills for the Legislature to consider this winter, to the dissatisfaction of critics who say the most purposeful recommendations were set aside.

The 17-member Environmental Quality Council consisting mostly of legislators adopted its climate-change report Monday and advanced fewer than a dozen measures based on the recommendations received last year from the Governor’s Climate Change Advisory Committee. The council had rejected most of the recommendations earlier.
