Application store will be ready with phone release
Google is prepping for the release of its Android mobile phone operating system by taking a page from Apple's playbook -- and updating it.
While Apple opened a successful online application store last month, one year after the iPhone went on sale and in time for the release of its successor, the iPhone 3G, Google plans to be ready on Day One with its own application distribution service. The company outlined plans this week for its Android Market -- and announced the winners of the competition to develop applications that will stock the market's virtual shelves.
