America's 'Philanthropic Divide' isn't getting narrower

Eighteen months ago, this space was devoted to a report that showed Montana on the losing side of something called the "philanthropic divide."
The annual report by the Big Sky Institute for the Advancement of Nonprofits documented that the nickname "Treasure State" may once have been appropriate based on the state's resource wealth, but not when it comes to the state's receipt of philanthropic giving.
At that time, the most recent philanthropy data placed Montana 48th nationally for in-state foundation assets, and 46th in grant-making per capita.
So what's happened in the intervening 18 months?
