Valley start-ups Meebo, TokBox offer new ways to link people online with instant messaging and video conferencing

Once upon a technology, Western Union was a communications start-up that became a household name.
Today, Meebo http://www.meebo.com/ and TokBox http://www.tokbox.com/ are two allied Silicon Valley communications start-ups bidding to become household names of the 21st century. Three-year-old Meebo, with headquarters that happen to be next door to a Western Union outpost in Mountain View, pioneered Web-based instant-messaging and boldly bills itself as ''the Web's live communications platform.''
