Sun Ranch near Ennis, Montana protected for future generations as top rated "Eco-Getaway"

Sun Ranch http://www.sunranchlodge.com/ is a vacation destination that Outside magazine rates as 1 of the nation’s best "eco-getaways."

Conservation easements now apply to nearly all of a Montana ranch that a Silicon Valley businessman, Roger Lang, bought from actor Steven Seagal about 10 years ago.

The Trust for Public Land bought the latest easement on Sun Ranch http://www.sunranchlodge.com/ near Ennis, then sold the easement to the U.S. Forest Service, which is to monitor the land. The easement covers about 11,000 acres. That deal and an earlier agreement together have put more than 95% of the ranch under conservation easements. They require Lang to give up development rights, but he retains ownership of the land.
