Proposed performing arts school by Missoula Children's Theatre considers options
| August 1, 2008 |
Larry Johnson's job as Missoula County Public Schools personnel director tends toward the serious side.
So his enthusiasm was telling this week when he discussed ways a private performing arts high school might link with the city's existing public school system.
“This is one of the most fun projects I've worked on for a long time,” Johnson told the MCPS Personnel, Negotiations and Policy committee on Wednesday. “I believe it certainly is (doable).”
The project involves a Missoula Children's Theatre http://www.mctinc.org/ proposal to start a residential performing arts high school next year. Students from around the country and the world would audition for seats at the school, which would teach drama, music and dance for those seeking theater careers. The school would have its own dorm, and use classrooms at MCT's Broadway theater building (itself a former public school).
