Idaho National Laboratory team to study reuse of spent nuclear fuel

The U.S. Department of Energy says a team from the Idaho National Laboratory has been selected to devise a process to generate energy while destroying plutonium and other radioactive material from spent nuclear fuel.

The department on Wednesday also chose a team from the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois to share $7.3 million to be used to develop a process called "Deep-Burn."

The two DOE laboratories will partner with other national laboratories, universities and industry to develop the process.
