Governor Schweitzer Announces $140,000 in AmeriCorps Youth Scholarships Available to Montana Students

Governor Brian Schweitzer announced today the availability of $140,000 in scholarships for High School seniors in recognition of their service to their community. Students who perform 100 hours of community service in their community before the April 24, 2009 deadline will qualify for a $1000 educational award.

"I hope every Montana student takes advantage of the opportunity to become involved in their communities through community service. Montana needs their energy, enthusiasm and leadership," said Governor Brian Schweitzer. "These scholarships†will not only†further their education, but†help keep Montana on the move. I’m proud to be able to honor students who invest their time and talents in Montana."

Scholarships are made available through a partnership with the Governor’s Office of Community Service, Montana Campus Compact and the Student Assistance Foundation.

Each high school will select one student and one alternate application based on student attending one of Montana’s public, tribal, private, community or technical colleges. A total of 8 scholarships will be made available to seniors not attending public high schools. An application must be submitted by the High School principal or County Superintendent to the Governors Office of Community Service by April 24, 2009.
