Job Description and Qualification Requirements

The Marketing and Communications Specialist actively collaborates to develop the DAISY Consortium’s marketing and communications strategy to engage a world-wide audience, primarily through digital media.

The position holder assumes responsibility for implementing the strategy; he / she coordinates and manages all related efforts including analysis, planning, execution, control, evaluation of the strategy and its implementation, and member relations. The Communications and Marketing Specialist works as part of an international team, utilizing a personal office to connect electronically with teammates and supervisors.

Main Tasks and Expected Outcomes

Marketing and Communications

Task: Create and implement a comprehensive communications plan with concrete measures and time lines including marketing of DAISY Consortium products and services, and public education regarding the Consortium’s mission and vision. Develop the “voice” and “look” of the DAISY Consortium by creating appealing and consistent messages and materials.

Outcome: Production of consistent and clear marketing and communications materials including brochures, Web content, and conference presentations; increased media mentions of the DAISY Consortium, its projects, members and leadership.

Member Relations

Task: Serve as first point of contact and respond to inquiries from Members, Friends and the general public; build long-term service relationships with Members and Friends; foster collaboration and information-sharing among members and engagement of members in DAISY Consortium projects.
Outcome: Active log of contacts with Members, Friends and general public; maintenance of FAQ file to ensure prompt and accurate response to inquiries; efficient and welcoming membership enrollment and acknowledgment process.

Digital Engagement

Task: Develop and implement Web-based initiatives with primary emphasis on public education and engagement.
Outcome: Improvements to http://www.daisy.org content and information flow; incorporation of multimedia information on http://www.daisy.org; adoption of social networking technologies such as forums, blogs, and wikis to monitor and disseminate information about DAISY and the DAISY Consortium; collaboration on “The DAISY Planet” email newsletter.

Project Team Collaboration

Task: Participate in project teams with specified tasks under the formal direction of the project leader.
Outcome: Full team-work participation is secured at any time independently of the hierarchical positions in the organizational chart.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree

Experience

• Five or more years in communications and/or marketing with significant experience in managing Web site content and production s (experience in non-profit organizations may be an advantage)

Professional Skills

• Experience in communications planning and implementation; experience writing and producing a range of high-quality publications

• Strong technical ability with Web content creation and design; must be able to take advantage of emerging web-based technologies

• Advanced knowledge of HTML and experience with popular content management systems (Confluence, Convio, Kintera, etc.), wikis, blogs, forums

• Advanced knowledge and experience with many forms of online content: text, links, database content, still images (illustrations, photographs, and diagrams – basic Adobe Photoshop skills), animation, audio, video, interactive devices (forms, forums, chat rooms, polls, questionnaires, etc.)

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (other languages an asset)

• Motivation to learn and develop accessible solutions for all formats

• Flexibility to work independently or to accept direction, and ability to efficiently organize projects, materials, and office systems
