Next big thing for Montana's smallest hospitals

One short section of a lengthy new Medicare law enacted this week could be "the next big thing in health care for the smallest of small hospitals."
That's how Reed Reyman, administrator of Prairie Community Hospital, sees it.
Tucked into dozens of pages directing how Medicare will pay doctors all over the nation, end disparity in co-payments for mental-health services and enhance assistance to low-income seniors, are several provisions to ensure access to care in rural America. One of these is targeted at hospitals that average fewer than five inpatients daily in counties with population densities of fewer than six residents per square mile.
