Rep. Rehberg Secures $100,000 in Funding for Montana Manufacturing Extension Center

Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today secured $100,000 in funding for the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center (MMEC) in the Financial Services Appropriations Bill. MMEC is an outreach center in the Montana State University College of Engineering in Bozeman that works with manufacturers to implement solutions that help them stay competitive and grow.

Since 1996, MMEC direct services have resulted in $171.2 million in increased and retained sales for client companies and helped create 491 new and 655 retained jobs. Client firms have also reported significant cost savings and investment in capital equipment and workforce development.

“The Montana Manufacturing Extension Center has a proven track record of helping Montana’s small manufacturers. Nearly 30 percent of the firms assisted by MMEC are involved in value-added agriculture, food processing and wood-related industries,” said Rehberg, a member of the powerful Appropriations Committee. “These funds will help important economic sectors to expand and bolster Montana’s bio-based manufacturing companies.”

“Congressman Rehberg is an important champion of the Montana Manufacturing Center,” says Director Steve Holland. “Denny understands the importance of continuing to build on the efforts of bio-product commercialization and augment workforce training with the technical skills and systems development that MMEC offers.”

“MMEC’s ability to interact with the manufacturing industry at the ground level is very effective,” said Rehberg. “That’s why I’m happy to put my weight behind MMEC’s good work in anyway that I can.”
