Montana Folk Festival funding a smart move in Butte, Montana - July 11-13
| June 6, 2008 |
With just 35 days and counting until the National Folk Festival’s http://www.nationalfolkfestival.com/ opening act, Butte-Silver Bow commissioners were right to approve funding for critical public infrastructure improvements. This is Butte’s debut on the national stage, and we need to be looking sharp for the occasion.
The alternative wouldn’t have been pretty: Crowds filing past a crumbling stone retaining wall on East Granite; walkways pocked with orange safety bollards marking sidewalk hazards.
There’s no better motivator than “company coming” to mobilize a household into getting around to piled-up chores, and the same goes for communities, too. It’s nice to have such a great reason to spruce up a core part of our National Historic Landmark District that’s been neglected for decades.
