Missoula Children's Theater founder proposes drama school in Missoula

June 3, 2008View for printing

Jim Caron's flair for the dramatic remains firmly intact.

The founder of Missoula Children's Theatre http://www.mctinc.org/ stunned a committee of Missoula County Public Schools trustees Monday with a proposal to partner a resident drama school with the city's high school program.

Students would live in a special dorm, spend half their day learning core subjects and half studying music, drama and dance. They would pay tuition for the performing arts program, but also be officially enrolled in the public school system.

“We're asking at this stage of the game nothing but your blessing to keep working on it,” Caron told members of the MCPS Curriculum and Instruction Committee. “It's at the discussion stage, and I think we're at least a year and a half out. I could see us with 500 to 600 students in a few years.”
