| May 24, 2008 |
Plum Creek Timber Co. http://www.plumcreek.com/ says it is prepared to sell about 300,000 acres in Montana for perpetual public uses such as hunting and hiking.
The company and Montana Sen. Max Baucus http://baucus.senate.gov/ announced the framework for a land deal that would take place under legislation Baucus recently advanced.
Plum Creek is the largest private landowner in the United States and Montana, where the company has about 1.2 million acres. The new farm bill includes a Baucus provision for the sale of tax-credit bonds to help finance land transactions such as the Plum Creek deal.
