Montana’s ag at climate change crossroads - Burton K. Wheeler Center’s conference on climate change
| May 13, 2008 |
Will Roehm and his family used to rotate wheat and barley on the fields of their dry-land farm outside Great Falls. But in recent years, they began phasing out their barley production.
Now the Roehms don’t grow barley at all, but instead let their fields regenerate between their wheat crops.
“It’s not all climate change, but (climate change) is pretty significant,” Roehm, who is also president of the Montana Graingrowers Association, said Monday at the Burton K. Wheeler Center’s http://www.montana.edu/wheeler/ conference on climate change and its effect on agriculture and energy in Montana.
