LAST WEEK, I featured a question from an architect who wanted to understand the implications of accepting stock options or common stock in a privately held startup retail company in lieu of cash compensation. He valued his work at approximately $100,000.
The issuance of stock options, common stock or some combination package is a very common form of noncash compensation to founders, first employees, board members, advisory board members and consultants.
