Governor calls for making Utah's workforce more globally competitive
| May 7, 2008 |
Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. has established a committee to look at how to improve Utah's workforce in order to better compete in the global economy.
Huntsman said during a news conference today that the 17-member committee — consisting of leaders in government, business, education and labor — will report in early autumn about "future work force needs" and how to address them.
While Huntsman acknowledged that he has no idea what the recommendations will be, much of the discussion Wednesday focused on education improvements that would give graduating Utah high school and college students the skills needed to help the United States compete economically with other countries. Huntsman wants them to be "lifelong learners" who are able to be "innovative and creative."
