There's an elephant in the state's real estate room
A controversy is brewing in western Montana, and its outcome has the potential to redefine the face of some of the most coveted parts of the state.
It revolves around the disposition of vast tracts of land owned by Plum Creek Timber Co., a corporate Burlington Northern Railroad descendant that had its origins in 19th century federal government land grants.
