Portlock Software of Butte, Montana owner, John Hanley ordered to pay $335K in sexual harassment case
| April 25, 2008 |
Two former employees of a Butte software company say they had to perform sexual favors for the company’s owner to keep their jobs.
An attorney for the two women filed a petition in Butte district court this week demanding Portlock Corp. http://www.portlock.com/ and its owner John Hanley pay the former employees damages for being fired for opposing sexual harassment in their workplace.
In March, the Montana Department of Labor and Industry’s Human Rights Bureau ruled that the two former employees suffered emotional distress and damage by being subjected to Hanley’s sexual harassment and retaliation. The state ordered Portlock, which makes computer software, to pay each woman $167,500 for lost wages, lost health insurance coverage and emotional distress, according to court records.
