The U.S. Chamber of Commerce gives Montana schools a mixed report card.

Montana received an A in academic achievement, but got Ds in both rigor of standards and achievement relative to money spent.
Superintendent Jack Copps and a Chamber of Commerce representative say Montana schools need to figure out how to spend money efficiently and keep student performance on the rise. "The books are very transparent here in Billings," said Karen Elzey, of the Institute for a Competitive Workforce, an affiliate of the COC.

Schweitzer said he wants to hear from district superintendents and school boards about how they spent the state’s money. He wants comparative statistics that show administrative costs, energy costs, transportation expenses, student-to-teacher ratios and other cost data that can be used to document need.
