Teacher scholarships offered for economic workshops in Montana

The Montana Council on Economic Education is offering full scholarships to Montana teachers interested in attending a summer workshop worth one graduate credit at Montana State University.

"Economics 500- Economic Education in Action," set June 18-20 at MSU, is a workshop designed for teachers of social studies, business, mathematics, family and consumer science and other disciplines.

New this year will be presentations from Montana High School teachers on how to implement the recently completed Economic Learning Modules. The ELMs are turnkey lesson plans that address Montana’s economic education standards. The modules can be used as stand-alone lesson plans or as a complete curriculum. The ELMs will be distributed to each high school in the state this year.

In addition, there will be presentations by economists from the business, governmental, and academic sectors. Teacher-requested topics will also be addressed, along with current economic subject matter.

Teachers will have the opportunity to train on the High School Business Challenge and the Stock Market Game simulations, both programs in Montana schools. Teacher training is a prerequisite for participation by student teams in the High School Business Challenge and Stock Market Games.

Full scholarships are available that provide housing, meals, materials and the full cost of one graduate credit. There is a $25 refundable registration fee.
