“Protecting Waterways, People and Natural Resources”

Monday, April 21, 2008

11:30a.m. – 1:00p.m.

DOUBLETREE EDGEWATER, 100 MADISON

Clark Fork Coalition staff scientist Chris Brick will talk at the upcoming City Club Forum April 21 about streamside setbacks – what they are and why we need them. Setbacks take many forms. In general, they are buffer zones that aim to preserve native streamside habitat by preventing new building at the very edges of our streams and rivers. They protect the streams we treasure, and they keep people and property safe from flood damage.

Chris will discuss different ways of developing setbacks and what other counties in Montana are doing to protect their streams and rivers from too-close development. Two of the three fastest-growing counties in western Montana – Ravalli and Flathead – are considering setback regulations, while the third, Missoula County, is in the early stages of exploring a streamside protection program that addresses growth, water, wildlife and riparian values.

City Club Missoula forums are open to everyone. You do not need to be a member to attend; however, reservations are required.

Reservations for the April 21 City Club Forum can be made by email to ccm@cityclubmissoula.org or by calling 406-546-6643 before noon Thursday, April 17. Payment is required for late cancellations and unclaimed reservations. We encourage you to find a substitute to claim your reservation.
