Inside Entrepreneurship: Networking is key for information, money

Q: I have two software application ideas that require funding. The first is an application for Facebook that will make money through advertising, and the other is for the retail clothing industry. Creating software is not the challenging part, but getting to the right people inside large retailers is. I need an investor with deep connections in the retail industry. A Nordstrom heir might be a good fit. Who comes to mind for this?

Startup entrepreneurs typically wait too long to reach out to decision-makers in their industry for strategically insightful, mostly pro bono guidance. I encourage aggressive outreach before products are designed rather than after. (You can contact me at russ@matr.net ...)
