Montana Superintendent McCulloch Announcing After School Program Grants

March 20, 2008View for printing

Today, State Superintendent Linda McCulloch announced the release of applications for 21st Century After School Grants. This is a competitive grant process open to schools and community based organizations partnering with a school or school district.

"The 21st Century After School Grants have a strong history in Montana of providing high quality programs for kids," said Superintendent Linda McCulloch. "These grants are a great way for schools and community organizations to provide fun, safe, and educational activities for students after school and during the summer."

Schools or community organizations are eligible for 21st Century grant if 40 percent of the students in the school district receive free or reduced price meals. Information about the application process can be found at http://www.opi.mt.gov/21Cent/index.html.

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers provide opportunities for academic enrichment during non-school hours (before-school, after-school and summer) in a community learning center environment. Services reinforce and complement regular academic programs and offer literacy and educational development to families of the participants. Awards must be for at least $50,000 and are 5 years in duration. Currently, the Office of Public Instruction has 47 21st Century grantees. $900,000 is available for new grants in the 2008-09 grant cycle.
