Idaho National Laboratory sponsors competition for 27 Idaho high schools to compete for trip to National Science Bowl

Teams from 27 Idaho high schools will compete Tuesday, March 18, in the Idaho National Laboratory http://www.inl.gov Scholastic Tournament state championships. The prize is three berths at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl in May in Washington, D.C. The Scholastic Tournament competition will be at the Boise Centre On the Grove, followed by the championship matches in each of three divisions videotaped at Idaho Public Television on
Wednesday, March 19 and broadcast on Saturday, March 22.

Bill Valdez, director of the Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists in the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, will be the keynote speaker. Approximately 260 students will attend the luncheon, which begins at noon in The Falcons Room of the Boise Centre On the Grove.

The competition for the large and middle-sized school (Class A and B) will begin at 1:45 p.m., followed by the small-size schools (Class C) at 5:30 p.m.

Class A schools competing at the tournament are: Centennial of Meridian, Idaho Falls, Madison of Rexburg, Moscow, Post Falls, Shelley and Timberline of Boise and Twin Falls.

Class B schools are: Grangeville, Kimberly, Marsh Valley of Arimo, McCall- Donnelly, New Plymouth, Soda Springs, South Fremont of St. Anthony and Timberlake of Spirit Lake.

Class C schools are: Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, Cole Valley Christian, Council, Grace, Logos School of Moscow, Midvale, Murtaugh, Nezperce, Potlatch, Rockland and West Side of Dayton.

Each of the three state championships will be broadcast on Idaho Public Television on Saturday, March 22, beginning at 5 p.m. MST, and 4 p.m. PST.
