Where are we with WiMax in the U.S.?
| March 12, 2008 |
With the 700MHz spectrum auction nearing an end the continued rumors surrounding Sprint and a potential JV it is once again time to reflect and try to assess what we should expect next. A couple of key points to consider are that there is no way to deploy a nationwide network within the next 18 months without both Sprint and Clearwire somehow being partnered in this rumored JV.
So Sprint and Clearwire have the spectrum, but which partner or partners are going to supply the cash? So there is a lot of speculation that the cash will come from Intel. But are there others, including international player likely to join the party? Of course an international partner could be a double edged sword, maybe offering money and know how, but might have problems getting federal approvals.
