Wind plant is boon for Butte, economist says. Fuhrlander AG of Germany
| March 8, 2008 |
An economist says the wind turbine manufacturing plant planned for Butte would immediately be among the state’s largest manufacturing facilities and would have a significant impact on the local economy.
Fuhrlander AG of Germany announced earlier this week, along with Gov. Brian Schweitzer, that it plans to break ground later this year on a plant that will employ about 150 workers. The plant will be at the intersections of Interstates 90 and 15.
University of Montana economist Paul Polzin, a leading monitor of the state’s economy, says a manufacturing plant that large would immediately represent about 10 percent to 15 percent of Butte’s economic base.
