University of Montana leads in athletics, Montana State University leads in research

The Griz score higher in athletics, but the ‘Cats are winning the brain game in research.
Such comparisons between the University of Montana http://www.umt.edu/ and Montana State University http://www.montana.edu/ can be drawn from reports on athletics, research and diversity being presented this week to the Montana Board of Regents.
Not that anyone in this rivalry-crazed state would dream of stacking up the Missoula and Bozeman campuses against each other. But some obvious comparisons can be drawn, starting with the Athletics Report by Frieda Houser, budget director with the commissioner of higher education’s office in Helena.
