Strother Martin, playing a hardscrabble rural prison warden, tells non-conforming inmate Paul Newman, "What we've got here is failure to communicate." Martin proceeds to make Newman's incarceration a veritable hell.
While some would say there are other similarities between actors in the film and certain individuals in North Idaho, this much is inarguable: Coeur d'Alene's urban renewal agency and the citizens it's serving have failed miserably in attempts to communicate.
That's why the agency, Lake City Development Corp., is hiring a public relations company to try to repair the phone line.
