Long-distance learning comes to Southern Utah
| March 3, 2008 |
Jessie Robinson is a single mom who works full-time and lives in Kanab.
Between taking care of small children and working, there was no way Robinson could travel to St. George or Cedar City to continue her education.
But thanks to new technology and instructors at the Dixie State College Hurricane Center, Robinson is able to take college courses at Kanab's high school via real-time interactive video conferencing.
Dixie State College is part of Utah's state-wide Education Network, or EDNET, which connects students and different locations to classes.
"It's like a blessing to come here," Robinson said before a class on Monday.
