Faced with increasing global competition in the marketplace in a down-spiraling economy, many governors are asking their legislatures to make a significant investment in higher education.

While I agree that higher education deserves more support, I think it's important to remember that the better we prepare university students, the better they'll do. Early education, yes that begins with pre-natal, is the most effective time to begin the process of nurturing a joy of learning and a love of innovation and creativity.
