Qwest mulls shift in cellular service

After announcing 89 percent quarterly earnings growth, CEO Ed Mueller says reselling Sprint service isn't optimal.

Qwest chief executive Ed Mueller said Tuesday the company is looking to change its wireless service model in an effort to produce more revenue.

During the company's fourth-quarter conference call, Mueller said Qwest would benefit from a different wireless offer. Currently, Qwest provides wireless service to 824,000 customers by reselling Sprint's service. Qwest purchases cellular minutes from Sprint but creates its own packages and offers its own handsets.
