Davidson Co.'s security breach reminds that personal data isn't as safe as we'd like
| February 10, 2008 |
Vern Fischer got a call from First Liberty Credit Union a couple years ago notifying him that his Visa card was one of 40 million nationwide potentially at risk because of a security breach.
Someone hacked into CardSystems Solutions, a third-party payment processor, in July 2005 and stole some customers' account numbers.
Now Fischer is facing a similar situation. He's among the 226,000 D.A. Davidson Co. http://www.davidsoncompanies.com/ account holders who received letters late last month notifying them that a hacker obtained their names, Social Security numbers and account balances via a Davidson database.
Fischer hopes this new situation will be as uneventful as the last.
