Government Issues Security Warning On Microsoft's Browser
| February 6, 2008 |
US-CERT, the nation's Computer Emergency Response Team, has warned http://www.us-cert.gov/current/index.html# people who use Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser to disable ActiveX.
The problem is a set of ActiveX controls, or software widgets, made by Aurigma that control how people upload images in MySpace and Facebook and use Yahoo Music Jukebox. Other web sites license them too.
Unpatched flaws in these controls are already being exploited by hackers to attack vulnerable PCs.
CERT has posted directions on how to secure your browser here http://www.us-cert.gov/reading_room/ ... curity.html . For more background on the flaws, Computerworld has a story here http://www.computerworld.com/action/ ... T_PM&nlid=8
