MobileDataforce Acquires Treetop Technologies

(Boise) MobileDataforce, a provider of business critical mobile software applications, has acquired privately-held Treetop Technologies. Both companies are based in Boise. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The acquisition of Treetop Technologies extends MobileDataforce’s portfolio of services to include enterprise database and web design, development and integration.
"MobileDataforce is experiencing rapid growth around the world and as our mobile software development projects grow in size and complexity, the talents of the Treetop Technologies’ team will become critical to our future success and growth plans," said Kevin Benedict, CEO of MobileDataforce.

DocuTech Adds Customers, Expands Products for 2008

(Idaho Falls) DocuTech Corp, which provides document and compliance services for the mortgage industry, announced it added 14 new clients during the fourth quarter of 2007, laying the foundation for a strong 2008.
The company also made significant improvements to its product offerings in 2007, added strategic partners and management team members.
During 2007, DocuTech enhanced its management team. Monte Larsen was hired as chief marketing officer, where he oversees the product management division, Australian business unit and all marketing initiatives. AMI Semiconductor, IMEC Collaborate on Next Generation Smart Power

(Pocatello) AMI Semiconductor has entered into a new two-year collaboration program with IMEC to develop AMI Semiconductor’s future Smart Power Technologies.
IMEC is Europe’s leading independent research center in the field of nanoelectronics. AMI Semiconductor designs and manufactures state-of-the-art mixed-signal and digital products for the automotive, medical, industrial, aerospace, and high-voltage communication markets.
Under the terms of the agreement, AMIS will develop critical and novel Smart Power processes and devices in IMEC’s advanced 200mm facilities, and use IMEC’s know-how and experience in deep submicron process technology. A team of on-site AMIS engineers will jointly work with IMEC engineers in the IMEC premises in Leuven, Belgium, in close collaboration with the AMIS Smart Power team in Oudenaarde, Belgium.
AMIS has collaborated with IMEC on a number of developments during the last 20 years. The new agreement takes the relationship between the two companies to a new level by moving, for the first time, part of the AMIS advanced technology R&D into IMEC’s own premises.
The new technology allows the integration of high voltage and power functions with dense logic, processors and memories into a single device. The I4T platform will enable complex system-on-chip Smart Power systems for next generation automotive, power regulation, and communications applications.

AMIS Leads Session on ‘Green Electronics’

(Pocatello) AMI Semiconductor played a leading part in a special session at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference early this month.
The session was on "Green Electronics: Environmental Impacts, Power and Ewaste." The event featured Jan Sevenhans from AMIS and Rudolf Koch from Infineon.
From shrinking ice packs to rising temperatures throughout the world, environmental and energy issues are getting the attention they deserve. This is especially true in the electronics industry. Electronics companies in the automotive and industrial markets are leading the transition to green technology. New standards and products are being developed to make combustion engines and hybrid cars more fuel efficient and to reduce and eliminate pollution. The next step is for the United Nations to monitor green law enforcement in industrial areas throughout the world.
"Automotive and industrial applications are the green brains of industry," said Sevenhans.
The International Solid-State Circuits Conference is the foremost forum for presentation of advances in solid-state circuits and systems-on-a-chip.

North Wind Lands Multi-Billion Dollar Contracts with Air Force

(Idaho Falls) North Wind, Inc., an environmental and engineering services firm, has received contract awards for two separate contracts with the U.S. Air Force with a combined contract ceiling of $7 billion.
Under one contract, North Wind will perform sustainment, restoration and modernization construction to facilities and infrastructure on various military installations worldwide, including locations in remote, austere, and hostile environments.
The other contract is to administer, coordinate, and technically support environmental; military construction; military family housing; and facility sustainment, restoration, and modernization programs of interest to the government worldwide.
Although these programs could include work in remote, austere and/or hostile locations, work will primarily be performed at Air Force installations in the United States.

Kount Combats Online Crime Targeted at Retailers

(Boise) Kount, a newly formed subsidiary of Boise-based Keynetics Inc., has launched its new online fraud control technology for top Internet retailers.
The product was displayed at the National Retail Federation 2008 Expo in New York last month.
Unlike other online fraud detection and prevention tools, Kount guards against organized crime directed at retail sites. It also pierces proxies through advanced geo-location technology and reports changes in risk via dynamic scoring.
"Legacy tools such as neural networks, Bayesian inference, and machine fingerprinting are no longer enough to guard against emerging online fraud," said Brad Wiskirchen, CEO of both Kount and Keynetics. "Today’s criminals are very sophisticated and highly aggressive. What’s more, they’re strategically organizing against online retailers and money transfer agents."
Because Keynetics also owns ClickBank, an online retailer of ebooks and software that completes nearly 20,000 orders a day from more than 200 countries around the world, Wiskirchen knows first-hand the amount of time and money that is lost to online fraud. Since putting Kount’s technology to work, ClickBank has reduced fraud losses by more than 30 percent.

Kyocera Wireless, M2M Communications Collaborate

(Boise) Kyocera Wireless Corp., a manufacturer of CDMA wireless handsets and devices, and M2M Communications, a Boise-based wireless M2M systems integrator and application provider, have deployment a sophisticated direct load-control program custom engineered for Rocky Mountain Power’s demand-side management project.
M2M Communications integrated a NetSwitch load-control solution and the dual-mode Kyocera 200 Module along with its custom-designed Web-to-wireless control system to enable remote monitoring and energy usage control at irrigation pump sites. Over the next 18 months, 4,000 of these custom-designed load control units will be installed in southeast Idaho, allowing Rocky Mountain Power to shift enough energy from irrigation pumps to power approximately 8,000 homes during the summer months.
During the summer months, as much as one-third of the total power consumption in rural areas is devoted to irrigation pumps and systems. Direct load control programs give utility companies the ability to reschedule the power consumption for various types of equipment at participating customer sites during times of peak energy demand. With the new custom-designed load control units in place, utility companies can monitor power usage remotely as it is being consumed and determine in real-time if the available power supply is being optimized. If not, utility technicians can use the system’s two-way Web-to-wireless control system to shift power to other areas.

CRI Advantage Supports Research in Mexico

(Boise) CRI Advantage, Inc., a Boise-based information technology consulting firm, has been awarded a contract to investigate the feasibility of implementing a cost-effective country-wide database of cancer incidence in Mexico.
CRI will work cooperatively with the national nonprofit Public Heath Institute and the California Cancer Registry. This initial project is being funded by Roche, one of the leading pharmaceutical and health care companies in the country.
"We are excited and honored to be a part of this effort to help further the documentation of cancer data in Mexico in order to develop strategies to combat this deadly disease," said CRI Executive Vice President Platt Thompson. "We hope that in some small way, we will contribute to the reduction of cancer-caused mortality by learning more about the magnitude of the problem".
Initially, CRI will provide two consultants to work with Mexico’s Registry Histopatologico de Neoplasias Malingas. CRI will support CCR technology experts in establishing a data architecture in the first phase of the project, followed by a technology architecture phase.
CRI Advantage played a significant role in the development of a web-based data collection system for the State of California’s Cancer Registry. The CCR is now recognized as one of the leading cancer registries in the world. Due to the size and diversity of the California population, more is now known about the occurrence of cancer in diverse populations than ever before.

UI Plans Oilseed Conference

(Moscow) Oilseed food, fuel and farming opportunities and information will be the focus of a Feb. 27 conference sponsored by the University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
The Idaho Oilseed Conference at the University Inn Best Western in Moscow will draw presenters from Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
"We’re going to cover the spectrum from plant breeding to farming practices and from biodiesel to biopesticide uses," said Donn Thill, a professor of weed science and superintendent of the Palouse Research, Extension and Education Center at Moscow.
The one-day agenda will offer a time-efficient overview of current science and trends for farmers, policy makers and researchers, Thill said.
Matt Smith of Diversified Fuels at Buhl, Idaho, plans to attend. "We really want to see more interest and support for oilseeds around the state," he said.
Diversified Fuels plans to begin crushing canola seed in south central Idaho in July 2009, pending the receipt of the final capital needed for construction, said Smith, the project manager. The initial market will be oil for food, because that offers the highest prices; the project’s second phase will focus on biofuel production.
"Other states, notably Washington and Oregon, however, have launched biofuels initiatives to funnel resources into the science," Thill said. "The University of Idaho’s researchers are leaders in oilseed development and use but are seeing that edge diminish."

Idaho to Invest in Medical Isotope Production

(Idaho Falls) The state of Idaho will invest $2 million in isotope production capabilities and research.
The long-term loan comes from an economic development fund and allows Battelle Energy Alliance to speed up the installation of isotope production equipment at INL’s Advanced Test Reactor.
The funding will be used for the installation of a transfer shuttle irradiation facility, known as a "Rabbit." The equipment will produce medical and other isotopes and allows for research experiments that involve shorter irradiation times than current reactor operations.
The first $1 million payment from the state to BEA occurred Jan. 30, with the second payment to be made later in the year. Under the terms of the loan to BEA, the equipment is to be installed in 2008. Repayment of the loan will begin in 2011 for the first $1 million; the second payment will be made in 2012.
The source of the loan is from the INEEL Settlement Fund, which received $30 million from the U.S. Department of Energy as part of the 1995 court settlement with the state of Idaho.

Trancite Logic Systems Moves to New Headquarters

(Boise) Trancite Logic Systems, the developer of leading incident diagramming software, moved into its new headquarters at 8648 W. Franklin in Boise.
The move doubles the available square footage of office space as well as positions the company for another 100 percent growth in staff.
Trancite Logic Systems provides diagramming and reporting software to more than 300,000 users in 3,500 law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and around the world. 2007 marked a year of unprecedented growth and success for the small, Boise-based company. Trancite announced the official release of two field reporting software programs – Signature Scene and ATTAC – for the commercial, federal law enforcement, and military sectors.
Work with the Department of Defense, Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security has been some of the most significant IT successes in recent history. Trancite also prepared to open their satellite office in Dallas in partnership with Texas A&M University.

Idaho Accelerator Center Receives $1.8 Million

(Pocatello) The Idaho State University Idaho Accelerator Center has received an additional $1.8 million to continue to develop technology for the detection and neutralization of chemical, biological and fissionable (nuclear) weapons or weapons materials using small accelerator detection systems.
This new funding adds to the $4 million already received from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Joint Science and Technology Office for Chemical and Biological Defense.
The project features several major components. For one, the researchers are developing small, portable accelerator systems that could be used to detect fissionable, chemical and biological materials. These systems would be small enough to be transported on the back of a pickup truck.
The researchers are also trying to develop accelerators to be used to identify and track where fissionable materials have been developed. Potentially, in the case of an attack or if materials for developing weapons were found, accelerators could be used to help quickly and accurately identify where to retaliate or whom to hold responsible.
In addition, this funding continues to support ISU associate professor of biological sciences professor Linda DeVeaux, Ph.D., and colleagues who are studying "bio-threat reduction," determining ways to neutralize or to determine the radiation resistance of bacteria and other microbes. Already, DeVeaux and co-researchers have discovered the most radiation resistant microbes known to science.
Accelerators are machines that speed up molecules, sub-atomic particles and elementary particles such as electrons and protons. IAC accelerators can deliver as much as 44 million volts, and are used for basic scientific and applied research as well as for development of a variety of high-tech industrial applications.

Cole Valley Software Launches CRM Product

(Coeur d’Alene) Cole Valley Software has released ContactEase Relationship Discovery, the first Customer Relationship Management product to include Enterprise Relationship Management capabilities within a CRM platform.
ContactEase enables law firms of all sizes to grow business by unearthing contacts and relationships that exist only in email communications and calendar items.

PakSense Names New CEO

(Boise) David W. Light has been named Chief Executive Officer of PakSense, Inc., a Boise company that makes packaging sensors.
Prior to joining PakSense, Mr. Light was CEO of Sunrise Technologies, Inc., a publicly traded provider of lasers and related products for the ophthalmic and dental industries. At Sunrise, he successfully raised $25 million in private capital, led the dental division to profitability and then built a team that increased stock value from 34 cents to $20 per share. Prior to Sunrise, Mr. Light also successfully completed an initial public offering for Advanced Polymer Systems, a high-tech polymer business.
"As a Keiretsu Forum angel investor in Silicon Valley, I was introduced to PakSense and felt that its technology and range of possible markets provided great potential for exponential growth," said Light.
In a related move, Tom Jensen, founder and former CEO of PakSense, will now take on the responsibility of Chief Technical Officer and continue as Chairman of the Board at PakSense. In his role as CTO, Jensen will lead the research and development and patent protection efforts for the company.

Micron Introduces Imaging Solution for Ultra-Compact Devices

(Boise) Micron Technology has introduced a new imaging solution that enables ultra-compact HD digital video cameras for a number of portable devices, including pocket camcorders, security systems and PC cameras.
The new DevCam HD solution is a ready-to-build reference design consisting of a Micron 1.6 megapixel image sensor and a video processor from Ambarella, Inc., a leader in low-power, HD video compression and image processing semiconductors based in Santa Clara, Calif.
"High-definition displays and high-speed connectivity are becoming standard features in consumer devices like televisions, home theater systems, computer monitors and notebook screens, and sharing and distributing HD content has also become a reality," said Suresh Venkatraman, Micron Imaging’s director of consumer markets. Intrepid Offers Soil Amendment to Golf Courses

(Idaho Falls) Intrepid Technology and Resources, Inc., a renewable alternate energy and soil amendment company, has begun to market its branded FiberBlend soil amendment product to municipal and private golf courses in the Idaho, Utah and California area.
FiberBlend is produced in a process that reduces carbon emissions and generates renewable "green" pipeline quality methane gas.
The golfing industry requires unique soil amendment products and the FiberBlend products address issues of soil conditioning and retention of water, both critical to golf courses.
Intrepid is producing the unique fiber product from its two operating anaerobic digester plants in Idaho along with the methane gas that is sold to industrial customers and carbon credits that are being sold to EcoSecurities of Great Britain.
Intrepid creates energy and other products from renewable agriculture feedstock and industrial and agriculture waste materials.

RxElite to Acquire Assets of FineTech Laboratories
(Meridian) RxElite, Inc., a developer, manufacturer, and marketer of specialty generic prescription drug products, plans to acquire business and assets of FineTech Laboratories Ltd. located in Haifa, Israel.
The purchase price is $6.2 million in cash and 18,632,383 shares of RxElite common stock. Combining the ability to develop and manufacture complex active pharmaceutical ingredients with RxElite’s robust generic manufacturing and distribution capability is a major step for RxElite.
"The acquisition immediately expands our domestic and worldwide opportunities to develop and profitably launch complex generic drugs," said Jonathan Houssian, CEO and founder of RxElite.
RxElite has acquired the physical facilities, the intellectual property and patents of FineTech and has retained all FineTech employees. FineTech’s team of 29, including 20 Ph.D. level scientists, conducts proprietary research and development and manufactures complex APIs at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Israel.
FineTech will operate as a separate division, through a wholly owned subsidiary of RxElite, and will provide immediate chemical synthesis, API development capabilities, and strategic opportunities to RxElite.

Balihoo Raises $4 Million
(Boise) Balihoo, the only provider of web-based software that streamlines the media research, selection, and request-for-proposal processes with on-demand data, has raised $4 million in its Series B round of funding.
Highway 12 Ventures, based in Boise, led the round with participation from existing investor Lacuna Capital. The company will use the funds to augment their sales and marketing efforts targeting the and planning community.
Based on the world’s largest database of advertising opportunities, Balihoo helps media organizations make better decisions faster and create more effective media plans by helping them easily find, gather, analyze and share data. Balihoo reduces the administrative workload on media buyers and planners, freeing them up to focus more on the overall strategy of the media plan.
"It’s hard to think of a bigger pain point for media buyers and planners given the colossal fragmentation of advertising opportunities," said Mark Solon, Managing Partner of Highway 12 Ventures.

MPC Teams Up to Provide Computers to Coast Guard
(Nampa) MPC Computers is teaming up with Apptis Inc to fulfill a multi-year contract to supply desktop and notebook PCs to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The computers will be supplied under the Department of Homeland Security’s five-year FirstSource contract with Apptis. MPC will supply the computers while Apptis, as a prime contractor, will administer the contract and provide the primary point of contact with the Coast Guard.

Ideas Innovations Idaho License Plates For Sale
(Statewide) Specialty license plates that support Idaho’s science and technology industry are for sale through the Idaho Transportation Department.
A portion of the proceeds from each plate sold goes to a fund that is used to develop programs and market the state’s technology sector.
