The Mobile WiMAX train has left the station

February 4, 2008View for printing

2008 will be the year that Mobile WiMAX will start to deliver the next great leap in wireless network evolution, allowing people to stay fully connected, even when they are far from the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot.

Mobile WiMAX will allow users to have on-the-go access to data-intensive applications, such as broadband Internet, online multimedia, live video conferencing, mobile TV and music downloads.

I have highlighted a few recent news release that indicate that WiMAX is about to revolutionize and mobilize the way we connect around the globe. As I stated in my last blog, WiMax (4G) will cause a major market disruption. I predict that the deployment and take up among users will be much quicker than many of the current experts on the subject.

Most of the experts do agree the number of global subscribers will exceed 50 million by 2012, I predict we will hit that number by the end of 2010. The YouTube Generation will be the first to adopt and show the rest of us how to leverage true broadband mobility. Press and industry expert’s views follow. I then provide our vision of next generation mobility.
