Award Winners to be Presented by Gov. Schweitzer at Montana Ambassadors Annual Conference, 2/7, Butte, Montana

The Montana Ambassadors http://www.montanaambassadors.com will be recognizing eleven award winners during their annual meeting in Butte, February 7th and 8th. Governor Brian Schweitzer will be on hand to present awards to the Montana Ambassador Educators of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Ambassadors of the Year, Legislators of the Year, Business of the Year, and Montana Ambassadors Plenipotentiary.
The Ambassadors will honor two outstanding educators who will receive the Michael P. Malone Educator of the Year Award: Professor Harry Fritz of the University of Montana, Missoula, and Dean Jane Baker, of the Montana College of Technology, Butte. This award recognizes Montana educators who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments, excellence, and leadership in the field of education and embodies the values of Michael Malone, PhD, former MSU President.
Ron Ueland will be honored as Entrepreneur of the Year for his leadership and innovation in helping to develop several new Montana-based business ventures. His efforts have helped to create successful new Montana businesses as well as literally hundreds of new jobs for Montanans.
This year’s recipients of the Ambassador of the Year award are Dale Mahugh of Northwestern Energy and Sean Thompson of Microsoft. Mahugh, a native of the Kalispell area and long time employee of Montana Power and Northwestern Energy, is being honored for his innovative efforts to promote Montana and its natural resources.
Sean Thompson is the former Vice President of the Northwest Chapter of Montana Ambassadors and played a key role in helping to organize the only chapter existing outside of the state. Thompson, a native of Butte is currently a Managing Director with Microsoft and lives in the Seattle area with his wife and children.
The Ambassadors will present CTA Architects Engineers with their annual Business of the Year award. Since it began more than seventy years ago, this unique partnership of architects and engineers has provided integrated design services to a national and international clientele and especially to those in the Rocky Mountain region.
The recipients of this year’s Legislators of the Year will be Senator John Brueggeman and Representative Dan Villa. Senator Brueggeman has served in both houses of Montana’s legislature while Representative Villa is a second term member of Montana’s House. Both have demonstrated effective legislative leadership.
This year the Ambassadors are also honoring three Montanans for their outstanding contributions to the state and its citizens. The three recipients of this year’s Ambassador Plenipotentiary awards are Liz Marchi, Jon Marchi, and Tom Siebel. Liz is a past president of the Ambassadors and is the fund coordinator for the Frontier Angel Fund. Jon has worked for many years in numerous economic development efforts in Montana including the Glacier Venture Fund. Tom Siebel brought a strong commitment to education and youth with him when he moved to Montana several years ago. He is being honored for leading in the development of the Montana Meth Project.
Governor Brian Schweitzer will be making the awards presentations to these recipients during the Montana Ambassadors Banquet in Butte on Thursday, February 7th, as a part of their annual two day conference which concludes on Friday, February 8th.
