The latest figures on Web video viewing show just how many consumers have glommed on to the Internet as a regular source of news and entertainment.
A report from the Pew Internet and American Life Project http://www.pewinternet.org/PPF/r/232 ... display.asp released this week shows that the percentage of Internet users who went to a video-sharing site grew 45% during 2007, rising from one-third to almost one-half of Web surfers.
And Web video is expanding not only its reach but its frequency of use, with the percentage of Pew survey respondents who said they watched a video "yesterday" (i.e, the day before they were contacted) also nearly doubled, to 15% from 8%.

Online video has become a daily fix for millions of people. Now entrepreneurs are starting to cash in on that obsession.
Consider Valentina Trevino. The 29-year-old Chicago artist and filmmaker regularly posts videos on YouTube, showing how she created a painting and what it means to her -- and musing quirkily on a host of matters. In one clip, she ruminates about the strange connection between the ballerinas in Edgar Degas's art and Britney Spears's custody battles.
The unorthodox formula has brought her a total of 8.2 million views on YouTube -- and, just as important, a host of buyers.
