Grant from Ron and Kathy Clausen of Rock Creek, Montana to The International Wildlife Media Center to help Montana teens learn wildlife filmmaking

By JOE NICKELL of the Missoulian

This summer, six teens from around the region will have the opportunity to make their own wildlife film, thanks to a new grant received by the International Wildlife Media Center http://www.wildlifefilms.org/ .

The center, which is best known as the organization behind the annual International Wildlife Film Festival, announced that it has received a grant from Ron and Kathy Clausen, part-time residents of Rock Creek, that will allow a select group of students to shoot, edit and produce their own documentary film.

“The project really fits with our goal of building the Montana Film Academy as a year-round educational opportunity for students to learn about wildlife and filmmaking,” said Jazz Rowell, education coordinator for the International Wildlife Media Center. “An after-school program can’t necessarily make it possible for students to go out and truly encounter and film the wilderness, so this grant will allow us to select a few students who can have that experience firsthand in an intensive way.”

Each year, the Clausens invite friends and business associates to Montana to fish, hike and experience the Montana outback, with activities focused on building awareness of land stewardship issues http://www.montana2007.blogspot.com/.
