Future depends on education - Former governor speaks on needs for greater knowledge
| January 12, 2008 |
While national security, global warming and health care may be hot-button topics in this election year, one issue in particular that could create improvements in those areas of interest -- education -- should be top of mind, former Colorado Gov. Roy Romer said Friday.
Noting a slipping economy, and a slide in worldwide academic rankings, Romer preached the importance of building the knowledge and skills of all America's youth to prepare them for success later in life.
In the "U.S., we're slipping behind the world very rapidly and our economic future depends on us doing a better job," Romer said during his keynote address at Friday morning's "Education Matters 2008 Business Leadership Forum," an event hosted by Impact on Education and the Boulder Chamber of Commerce to highlight the link between education and business.
