January 9, 2008View for printing

University of Montana forest ecologist and climate expert Steve Running will receive the title of “Regents Professor” this week when the Montana Board of Regents meets in Helena.

The UM scientist, who along with fellow members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, recently shared the Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore.

Rarely is the honor bestowed. Running's appointment brings to six the number of UM Regents Professors, with another four Montana State University Regents Professors.

Running joins the company of UM's Albert Borgmann, Paul Lauren, William Kittredge, Fred Allendorf, Martin Burke, and MSU's Jack Horner, Gordon Brittan, John Carlsten and Paul Grieco.
